The hamster is active after recovery from Zoletil. She is being handed to the young Indian couple as she goes home 4 hours after surgery. I followed up by phone 2 days later.

As at 7th day after surgery, the hamster is OK, eating and running. Baytril and pred were given for 5 days and not longer.

The challenge in leg amputation in dwarf hamster is in finding an anaesthetic that lasts sufficiently long enough for the surgery without killing the hamster. In this case Zoletil 50 IM at 0.01 ml or 2 drops from a 1-ml syringe was sufficient for this 36-gram hamster. Top up with isoflurane + O2 gas was not needed but was on standby.
