You can prepay for your tips before you even set foot on the ship.  The cruise line automatically divides the tip proceeds to the various staff members and there is no pressure for you to decide who gets how much or even if you missed someone.  Since September the Caribbean area has been in recovery mode to repair and rebuild entire support systems including the electrical grid on a number of islands.  The good news is that St Maarten and St Thomas are open again for cruise ships and their passengers.  Puerto Rico is still rebuilding from Hurricane Maria but the cruise port is open.  Meanwhile the Cayman Islands are enjoying record airline passangers and cruise passangers this season with many vacationers avoiding the eastern Caribbean areas for the Western Caribbean.
