NORTH LONG BEACH - A man was shot on a North Long Beach street Monday afternoon sending him to a local hospital with unknown wounds. The shooting occurred around 1:50 PM in the 800 block of E. Artesia Blvd just east of Atlantic Avenue. The victim appeared to be walking on the south sidewalk when he was confronted and shot. The suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. Long Beach Fire paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. LBPD radio traffic indicated the victim being treated for his wounds but that his condition was still unsure. Artesia Blvd, a major east/west throughfare, was shut down in both directions causing traffic to be diverted just as the afternoon rush hour was beginning. It is unclear how long the street closure will continue. Jordan High School is nearby but the victim is NOT a student.
