Tatikios was one of Alexios I Kamnenos able military leaders.  He had been sent into the field with the Western Crusader Armies until the early winter came and he left to get more supplies from Constantinople. Most believed that he would not return. In 1096 Tatikios had defended Constantinople from what he viewed as reckless Crusaders, who attacked the city after their arrival. In 1097, with Tzitas and 2,000 peltasts, Alexios sent him to Nicaea to assist the Crusaders in their siege of the city. Crusade chronicler Albert of Aix says that Tatikios acted as an envoy between the Turks and the crusaders, but according to the more reliable Anna Comnena, he was working with Boutoumites to negotiate the surrender of the city without the Crusaders' knowledge. He speculated how leadership was structured among the defensive forces; insofar as, how many towers an individual in Firuz’s position would be responsible for.

Kerbogha. Kerbogha (Arabic: كربغا‎‎, Turkish: Kürboğa) was Atabeg of Mosul during the First Crusade and was renowned as a soldier. He was a Turk who owed his success to his military talent. Muslim scholars recount the events and the Christian scholars are of the apologetic view regarding the crusades.
