Turkey, Sudan to rebuild Sawakin Island as a tourism site

The governor of Sudan's Red Sea State Ali Ahmed Hamid, has announced plans to rebuild Sawakin Island. Sudan and Turkey aim to launch the island as a tourism attraction as well as a transit point for pilgrims crossing to Mecca. Sawakin ,one of the oldest seaports in Africa was once used by African Muslims on pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.
