A beautifully moody slow movement by Kapustin. Except for the one 16th chord progression in primo, it's uncharactaristerically "easy" for Kapustin (about Grade 5), though the rhythm is a little complex. We didn't have a lot of time to practice, and there are some rough edges, but musically i'm happy with it. I can't stop listening to this piece, and I like to think of it as my hymn. I chose this recording over a second one. It had less mistakes, but this one has the feels. This four hands Sinfonietta is an arrangement of an (as so often unfortunately unavailable) orchestral piece by Kapustin. Funnily enough, he only arranged it to play it once for the Ministry of Culture and didn't think anyone would be interested in this arrangement afterwards. I had a great time playing the piano with Robin in France, and the music itself makes this memory only more nostalgic. Nikolai Kapustin - Sinfonietta Op. 49a for piano four hands - II.
