Unwanted Pregnancy. When to spay a dam?

The dam was still permitting suckling when the 3 puppies were 8 weeks old. Weaning of puppies usually at 4 to 5 weeks old. The owner brought the dam to be spayed but the dam had lots of milk in her breast tissue. Spay was advised 2 weeks later and all 3 puppies were not permitted to suckle. In 2 weeks, milk production will cease and the spay will not led to accidental leakage of milk into the surgery wound.
