Government has begun distributing Relief Grants to citizens impacted by heavy rains and flooding last week. Officials of the Ministry of Social Development were at the Arima Velodrome on Friday afternoon where they began distributing the cheques. Speaking at the Post Cabinet Media Briefing on Thursday, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said approximately 2,000 families were affected by the catastrophic flooding of October 19th to the 23rd in which water would have entered homes. The Prime Minister said that Cabinet had decided on flat payments of $15,000 for families with no children, and $20,000 for families with children. The Grants are above the usual sum given, which is up to $10,000, to replace appliances and household items. The cheques are being distributed to those who have already been assessed.
