We apologize for the slight delay in the beginning of this video which does start on 33:00 seconds.

Sea Lions are hazed, trapped, branded and killed at the Bonneville Dam for consuming as little as one fish over a five year period out of the Columbia River. Thirty sea lions have been trapped and killed by the State of Oregon at the Bonneville Dam in 2015.

ODFW claims that hot iron branding does not hurt these animals and SLDB observers report otherwise. Sea Lions suffer greatly under this process and often afterwards they are left withering in shock and their state inflicted brand wounds bleed for months.

The sea lion in this video appears to be in shock after being hot iron branded and even though the cage door is left open for the animal to be able to depart. He does not. The sea lion in this video does not move for over two minutes. These state employees can be seen poking the animal with sticks in attempts to rid the animal out from the squeeze cage.

The sea lion in this video is clearly stunned, suffering and hurt by being branded with four glowing hot irons. Other sea lions can be seen floating in the water as they too try to recover from being attacked and burnt with hot irons.

The state hot brands sea lions so that they can be identified if caught consuming some fish below the Bonneville Dam.

The sea lions impacts on the wild salmon are minimal compared to the impacts and destruction caused by Hydro power, Habitat loss, Hatchery and NIS species stocked into the Columbia River for sport fishing, and the maximization of the harvest.
