Authorities say a woman hit a Fort Oglethorpe police officer with her van Sunday. It happened while Sergeant Richard Williams was directing traffic at the scene of a crash. Williams, who is 65, suffered broken bones in his face, and a concussion. His right hand and knee were also injured. He’s being treated at Erlanger and is expected to make a full recovery. The van’s driver, 27-year-old Martha Dunn, has been charged with failure to exercise due care. It’s the second time this month that a first responder has been hit while responding to a crash. A Chattanooga firefighter was struck February 1st. The woman in that case was charged with DUI.
