CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Associated Press projected that Ohio 1st Congressional District Republican incumbent Rep. Steve Chabot has won, defeating Democrat Aftab Pureval.

The battle between Chabot and Clerk of Courts Pureval was one of the most closely watched races in the Tri-State Tuesday.

This was Pureval's first run at Congress. He was out campaigning over the weekend in Norwood following weeks of turmoil surrounding his campaign, including a staff shake-up and a complaint over funding his campaign.

Chabot, who's spent more than two decades representing the district, has leaned heavily on his experience throughout the duration of his campaign.
