Season's Greetings from the Future Research Vessel Project Team at CSIRO.

Australia has the third largest ocean territory in the world. There's so much more to know about our oceans, and we're onto it!

In 2009 the Australian Government gave CSIRO $120 million to build a new research vessel. Called Investigator, the ship will be owned by CSIRO, which runs Australia's Marine National Facility and it will replace the Facility's 66 metre ship, Southern Surveyor.

From the tropics to the Antarctic ice edge and across the Indian, Southern, and Pacific Oceans, onboard Investigator, scientists such as oceanographers, biologists, atmospheric researchers and geologists, will be able to study our oceans.
