August 31, 2016 (Part Three of a Three part Series ) "Glowing Red Irons" As the smoke and smell of burnt flesh fill the air-- visitors to the EMB look on in horror as ODFW ad WDFW proceed to torture the sea lions with their glowing, red hot irons. If the California sea lions is not branded already each sea lion will be scorched with a letter and three numbers which equates to being burnt with four hot irons apiece. Anybody who has ever received a burn understands that they hurt. On the other hand ODFW and NMFS claim that trapping and hot iron branding does not hurt or disturb the sea lion's normal behaviors, and SLDB observers report otherwise. On August 30, 2016 at 10:45 am California sea lion x 609 a recent branding victim appeared to be suffering and possibly in shock as he hung onto the dock barely able to lift his head out of the water to breath, ***As of 10:58 am on August 31,2016*** approximately 45 -50 California sea lions have been trapped and hot iron branded in the EMB in Astoria Oregon since August 29, 2016, SLDB observers report. **** From August 29, 2016 until 6:00 pm on August 31, 2016 approximately 75 California sea lions were trapped and hot iron branded and a lot of these animals were placed under anesthesia in the make shift lab that the mad scientists erected on the dock in the EMB in Astoria, Oregon, SLDB observers report.
