Officials: Yolo County residents beware of this apartment scam

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office and the Yolo County Housing Authority are making residents aware of an ongoing scam in the county. Scammers take potential renters for hundreds of dollars under the promise of a cheap home that’s become available. Scammers ask for a deposit and/or first month’s rent. The victim writes a check, sends cash or wires money without ever seeing the home. Officials said this is an old scam. However, the use of social media by the scammers to build a trusting relationship with victims is new.
