Cold War Memories The Berlin Wall 1959-1962 I was There! Tear Down This Wall Ich Bin Ein Berliner  My Father was deployed with NATO in Germany from 1959 to1962 and our family was there when the Berlin Wall went up overnight. In this video I recall how my father at the age of 22 Immigrated to Canada in 1952 and 7 years later my Mom, Dad, Little sister and I crossed the Atlantic Ocean on an Ocean liner to Germany because my Dad was in the Canadian Army.  He was a musician in the RCD Band and we ended up within 100 km from where my parents had left Germany for Canada.  What a round trip this was for my parents as they were broke when they came to Canada and then my Dad was paid in Canadian dollars in Germany when you could get 4 West German Marks for 1 Canadian Dollar.  Now they were well to do. All Booze, Cigarettes, food and fuel for their VW Camper that they bought there was available from the army base at super discounted prices.  Every time we visited the relatives, we brought Coffee, Booze and Cigarettes along with chocolate for the kids.
