ICC gives go ahead for Burundi war crimes investigation

The International Criminal Court has approved a request by prosecutors to formally investigate war crimes in Burundi.The crimes are said to be allegedly committed by the government against its political opponents from April 2015 to October 2017. In a statement, judges say murder, rape and torture led to the deaths of more than 1,000 people and prompted 400,000 to flee the country. Now even though Burundi has withdrawn from the court, the ICC will still have jurisdiction over crimes committed in Burundi while the country was a member of the Roman Statute.
