With the timer and battery disconnected, the Rosemary Ainslie circuit is filmed deliberately so the noise floor can be seen: 2.5 mV RMS and unable to reach a higher amplitude, put side by side with the running circuit for comparison. The shunt arithmetic is cross-checked against a meter, 30 mV across 0.25 ohms giving 0.12 A, with the ammeter agreeing to within a hundredth of an amp. The meter is then shown on several current scales.
