So, quickly, what we’ll be covering over the next  30 minutes or so here. We’ll talk about how we can apply unified workgroup communications which in the Motorola terminology we describe as Team Communications for commercial markets. I’ll also share a few tidbits from our Transportation and Logistics survey where we reached out to folks in the industry regarding the challenges they’re facing. That will be relatively quick but you all will be getting a copy of that. Finally, we’ll have a quick video at the end that summarizes everything that I spoke about prior.

Obviously the reason you are all here at this event today is because you’re all aware of what I am describing here. You may be facing the traditional challenges associated with supply chain, but also new ones that are a result of technology or communications capabilities now in the industry.

A few months ago, I was getting together with some friends from the Public Safety side of the business. For those of you who don’t know, Motorola has a very strong Public Safety radio presence. We were going to a tradeshow where we were showing both of our Public Safety and Commercial market solutions. They were saying, “Well, we’re going to be showing people how they can be the best in the moments that matter. What are you going to be talking about? How are you going to organize your information?” I said, “we’re going to do the exact same thing.”

Helping people be the best in the moments that matter is not a function of whether they are walking into a burning building but rather what the challenge is that they are facing in that particular moment. It’s what’s critical in their individual business. In the case of a firefighter, obviously there’s huge stakes involved there – but in the case of someone that is working in manufacturing facility, transportation and logistics, hospitality – there’s critical moments you encounter every day.

Obviously the people attending this conference know better than most. Your job is also to fight fires, just metaphorical ones.  Something has gone wrong, something needs to be addressed, a new opportunity has arisen and you have to move quickly, you have to make those things happen. How are you going to do that? You have to be able to communicate and communicate effectively.

When something happens like is called out here in the bullets – how can we make sure we can get to the important people that need to know and share the information that is critical to help them be successful with other parts of the organization that might be using different forms of communication? That, in essence, is unified workgroup communications and what we call Team Communications. 

03:22 So how exactly does that fit in the supply chain? Team Communications is built around the premise that the folks that work on the front line face different challenges that office workers face. For the office workers – there’s an industry called unified communications and collaboration – that helps them connect and be successful in the office work environment. When you think about the things you may use in the office everyday like video conferencing, or chat, or some sort of collaboration platform you might have with your coworkers. That is unified communications and collaboration. That is a multi-billion dollar industry and there are very large companies that do that all day long.
