Mason-Oceana 9-1-1 Center conducts a cybersecurity risk assessment to gain a comprehensive understanding of its risk posture and develop an executable plan for cyber resiliency. Learn more at motorolasolutions.com/cybersecurity 00:06 - Mason-Oceana-9-1-1 dispatch is for approximately 60 agencies in the 2 county area in western Michigan. We serve a year round population of about 55,000. Because we are a very popular resort location, we do see that population increase quite a bit, maybe as much as double, during the summer months. 00:25 - Both of our counties work closely together. The 911 center has become a centralized hub of information. All that information is so critical in the field. We have fully functioning laptop computers in our car with an immense amount of information. 00:42 - If we were to have some sort of intrusion or a data breach at this time, we can lose seconds, and seconds mean lives. We really need to be proactive when it comes to not only our facility's security, but our cyber security. 00:55 - Our industry is kind of built on reactionary. We're very reactive to a situation. If someone calls 911 then we send out a response. We have to look at our cyber security differently. 01:05 - Having an antivirus scanner and a firewall is no longer being adequately prepared for the type of cyber threats that we're facing today. The threats out there are constantly evolving. Unless you're staying on top of everything that's changing every single day, you're probably not going to be as proficient as a network security professional. 01:24 - Our network security analysis with Motorola was a very, very positive experience. From the people that worked on site with us for a couple of days all the way through to the presentations of the facts and findings, just really opened our eyes to a whole world of things that we really hadn't considered. The items were ranked from very high importance on down to lower importance. It also recommended the difficulty with which it might be to implement those different things. 01:52 - Being able to see that assessment, it did raise our priority level of what we needed done, not only on a data security level, but also on a facility security level. It really opens up the doors for us on which way we move and which way we prioritize now. We're really excited about that. 02:09 - The advice I would give another 911 center is to never be complacent. Seek out somebody that knows network security, does it for a living, get an analysis done, and get that nice baseline of where your network security is at here and now. From there, you can start to put pieces in place and improve your overall readiness.
