Thief steals Elmwood Place vehicle with employee inside bucket

OVER-THE-RHINE, Ohio (WKRC) - Police say a thief stole an Elmwood Place bucket truck with an employee in the bucket Friday morning. The thief then led police on a chase.

Police have identified the suspect as 45-year-old Dennis L. Smith.

The employee was hanging Christmas lights when the thief jumped into the truck and took off. The employee was able to lower the bucket and jump into the back of the truck. He then called 911.

Police spotted the stolen truck on Vine Street near Corryville. They used stop sticks to flatten the tires at Elder and Fenton. The truck then crashed at Vine near West Elder.

The employee was taken to the VA Hospital to get checked out. Police took a suspect into custody but have not released his name. Sgt. Eric Franz said they're treating this as an abduction.
