Marwan and Shereen Bashiti are trying to get permission to live together legally in Jerusalem. Israel's residency laws have left many Palestinian families divided and struggling to stay in the city. Palestinians like Marwan, who was born in East Jerusalem, and marry Palestinians from elsewhere in the West Bank, like his wife Shereen, need to apply for "family unification" to live in the same house. But the application process has become almost impossible in the past decade. Almost 14,000 East Jerusalem Palestinians, plus their children, have had their residency status revoked since 1967. Oxfam partner the Coalition for Jerusalem is helping families with legal support to be able to live together.
