The last piece I'm going to upload from Mercadante's "Caritea, regina di Caritea" is the grand finale to the opera. The piece starts with a melting arioso for Diego, as he presents Caritea with his own sword, so that she would be able to strike him down for the death of her former love, which then flows naturally to a shocked scene for all present. The second part of the andante is occupied by a plea of, first, Rodrigo and then all present for the Queen to make a decision worthy of her title. This ensemble is set against the unsure solo of Caritea, as she questions her own feelings. The tempo di mezzo find the Queen choosing Diego's love over her vengeance. The final allegretto is built around the classical vaudeville structure with each of the characters (with the exception of the bass, Rodrigo, who joins in the final stretta) singing a verse which are elaborated with each repetition. The final stretta is completed with the addition of the chorus which brings this opera to a conclusion. Here is the cast: Caritea - Nana Gordaze, Don Diego - Sonia Lee, Don Fernando - Nicolas Rivenq, Don Rodrigo - Gregory Bonfatti. Enjoy :)!
