One of my favourite pieces, a magical, yet pleasant little thing to play anytime for anyone. It's very special to me, I played this almost daily for a year or so, mostly for myself. Maybe that's why the thought of recording it didn't really occur to me until now. sheet music: http://imslp.org/wiki/4_Tales,_Op.26_(Medtner,_Nikolay) There are some things that could have been clearer, but oh well, the piece doesn't look like it, but it has dozens of devilish little details, the typical Medtner counterpoint, that are incredibly hard to bring out right. You can interpret them and bring them out in lots of different ways too, and each time i play it, i try to find new nuances or just play different ones. that's why the piece is still magical, despite seeming so simple and pleasant. Weird angle and lighting, but whatever. Nikolai Medtner - Skazka Op. 26/1 Skazka is best translated as Legend, though the childish "Fairy Tale" (or the german Märchen) is the most common translation.
