In 2010 The Department of Veterans Affairs set a goal to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2015. That deadline is fast approaching. Its less than 2 years away and the goal being threatened by budget challenges and the scope of the problem. Across the country 1 in 7 homeless people have served in the United States Military. Robert Rauen told us he served in the Marines from 84 to 1990. He now lives in the woods in Chattanooga. The Marine Corps taught me how to survive, Rauen told us. If it wasn't for that special training I had I wouldn't be here right now.He told us was driving a truck, and stopped in Nashville one night. While he was there he had a heart attack.Since then I've been out of work, and I've been sick, Rauen said. I'm still sick. I've got to have a third stint but in my heart. He heard there was work in Chattanooga, but he hasn't found any. On top of all of that his wife is pregnant. There are many programs that offer help for homeless veterans. One of those programs is M.A.S.H.
