Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi today officially launched the new Malaysian passport with sophisticated security features. The latest security features include a polycarbonate biodata page with a chip and a passport authenticity verification feature that can only be detected through ultraviolet light. Deputy Prime Minister said the upgraded features would prevent forgery and misuse by irresponsible people. The new version of the passport was introduced on November 15 last year. The current fee for applying for renewing a passport is RM200. (Soundbite Of Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi/ Deputy Prime Minister Subtitle: What has been done, although the quality has improved and the safety features have enhanced, there is no additional fee to the people. So there's no burden to the people. What's been given is a continuity from the Prime Minister's direction that there will be no additional tax, no additional service charges and no new additional charges for this year.)
