This mating pair of White-Streaked Silkmoths (Saturnia albofasciata) was hand-paired in the lab and has been together about 45 minutes. The desk light is moved away and the female becomes active almost immediately. The vibrating action is necessary to warm-up the insects' flight muscles. Otherwise they will not function well enough to achieve flight.
