Due to my online presence this is one request I keep getting from many people especially those who wish to visit Thailand. And the request is simply this - I am coming down to Thailand for a holiday. I would like to meet up with you for a cup of coffee or I would like to take you out for lunch or dinner.
Now in as much as this sounds like a harmless request, this is not something I like or I appreciate. Now for most people - it is a matter of curiosity as to why is it I do not wish to meet anyone? And the bigger question being - what is the harm is meeting anyone for a cup of coffee or for lunch? Isn't this how relationships are built?
My response to this request is simple -
1) I can afford a cup of tea or coffee as it is not very expensive.
2) I can easily afford lunch as food is not expensive here on the island.
3) I do not see any reason in meeting anyone face-to-face especially when there is time, effort and my expertise involved.
