Kings Island opens for 2018 season with new barbecue restaurant

MASON, Ohio (WKRC) - Saturday is the official start of the 2018 season at Kings Island, and they've got some new food and a new chef they're introducing this year.

The new restaurant Coney Bar B Que is located at Coney Mall right across from the Racer.

Executive chef James Major, who used to be the executive chef at Great American Ball Park and who also appeared on the Food Network's "Cutthroat Kitchen" and is a two-time winner of "Chopped,"  is serving up classic barbecue favorites like pulled pork, smoked St. Louis-style ribs and rotisserie chicken.

Gold Pass members got to try the new restaurant first Friday nights, with lines wrapping around the building.

“I’m so proud of the team; we had a lot of fun last night and there’s nothing better than opening a new restaurant," said Major.

The restaurant also features Queen City Sausage and a variety of side dishes. There's also outdoor seating with views of Coney Mall and the Grand Carousel.
