In this episode, theatre director Jayati Bose shares her insights into the content-driven, ideologically left-leaning theatre practices in India. She discusses how the National School of Drama (NSD) shaped a form-centric style of Indian theatre by blending multiple performing traditions, often diluting their distinct cultural diversities.
Jayati Bose also opens up about her directorial journey, focusing on her acclaimed production Care Kori Naa. She recalls her discovery of Grip’s Theatre and how she was the first to introduce it to the Bengali stage, drawn by the play’s strong text that explored ways of resisting subtle forms of control. She credits the enduring success of Care Kori Naa to its ability to connect deeply with contemporary social realities.
