SOUTH LA - A Los Angeles police officer fired at a suspect
after having a weapon pointed at him during a foot pursuit in the Chesterfield Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles early today, authorities said.
   The officer was not hurt and it was not immediately known if the suspect was hit during the incident in the area of South Manhattan Place and West 57th Street around 1:20 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
   One suspect was arrested at the scene, but the suspect who pointed the weapon during the foot pursuit remained at large, along with a second possible suspect, police said.
   The incident began as a short vehicle pursuit of an armed suspect, said LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado. He told CBS2 that the suspect crashed his vehicle into a parked car and ran off, pursued by an LAPD officer.
   The suspect turned and pointed a weapon at the officer during the chase, at which point the officer fired, Preciado said. Whether the suspect fired or was struck by gunfire was not clear, he said.
   A second suspect may also have been part of the foot pursuit, Preciado said. A four-block search perimeter was established, but it was lifted about 8 a.m., and the investigation was continuing, police said.
