Looking back now at some of the past winners from the African continent to win the Champions League trophy. Chelsea won the trophy in 2012 and four Africans were in that squad - Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel, Solomon Kalou and Michael Essien. The year before, Seydou Keita won it with Barcelona. In 2010, Jose Mourinho had three Africans in his victorious Inter Milan team. Samuel Eto'o, Sulley Muntari and McDonald Mariga. Barcelona's 2009 triumph brought with it three more winners. Yaya Toure, Samuel Eto'o and Keita once again. In 2006, Eto'o won his first with Barcelona, while Djimi Traore of Mali was part of Liverpool's 2005 squad. South Africa's Benni McCarthy lifted the trophy with the famous Porto side of 2004, while Sammi Kuffour of Ghana was 2001 champion. Before that, Geremi of Cameroon had won it in the year 2000 with Real Madrid.
