Councilman Chris Anderson has served District 7 in Chattanooga for 9 months, the whole time as an openly gay man. Now, nine months into office, they ask voters 'hey we wanna remove Chris Anderson because he's not doing his job.' It's awfully vague, said Anderson's attorney Stuart James. Especially when you have this undercurrent about Chris being gay, and pushing a gay agenda.A petition to remove Councilman Anderson was approved by the election commission last week. Now, Anderson is working to put an end to what he is calling discrimination against his sexual orientation. If you have a recall election, and your primary motive is to discriminate. Because they're black, a woman, Muslim, Christian, or they're gay, that's improper and you're not allowed to do that, said James.A couple of residents told us, they believe the recall is not because he is gay, but because he is not serving his constituents needs. We need infrastructure put in here so we're not cut off from the rest of the city, and will attract new businesses into the area, said Teresa Wood, of district 7. That's what we expect of our councilman.I can point to a lot of infrastructure repairs I've accomplished, the councilman said. And, increased police presence in my district. And also, some of the people in my district are in domestic partnerships. So, I've done a lot of things to benefit the people in my district. Some in his district agree that he has done a good job representing them, and think the petition is based on discrimination. The fact that you have to go to East Brainered to get people to support the recall, I think says a lot about what my district residents think about me, said Anderson.Anderson's attorney has filed an injunction to stop the petition until the judge decides on the lawsuit. If recall efforts can continue, 15% of District 7 residents must sign the petition by April 10th, for a vote to be placed on the August ballot.
