Written by City News Service - Sheriff's homicide detectives today were investigating the drowning death of an 8-month-old baby in Valinda. It happened at 8:50 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Pass and Covina Road, said Deputy Don Walker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Headquarters bureau. The child's 25-year-old mother had been bathing the infant in a bathtub along with his 1-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother, Walker said. ``The mother left all three siblings unattended in the bathtub for about 10 to 15 minutes,'' Walker said. ``When she returned, she found the eight- month-old face-down in the water and not breathing.'' The infant was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, he said. Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services officials took the other two children into protective custody as a homicide investigation remained underway. LOUDLABS NEWS
