Pure quiet, peaceful, cold, dry, winter camping morning with absolutely no wind, no machinery sounds, and only squeaky snow, the way I like it. Its not always like this. Sometimes its storming and howling winds. But when its quiet like this, it makes all the hard work worth while. On a base camp, with guaranteed good weather (cold and dry), no slush on the ice, with nothing to do but cut wood, burn wood, go skiing or snowshoeing exploring new areas, ice fishing, and living large in the boreal forest using wood for heat and cooking, with no humans anywhere on the lake but me. I try to remember to never forget how fortunate I am to have access to places like this, and the good health to get here. Winter is far too short for me.
