Minister of Works, Rohan Sinanan, says water levels have dropped significantly across the country, and the Ministry is now focused on inspection of infrastructure. During the Joint National Security News Conference on Wednesday, the Minister reported that the two areas still affected by flood waters were El Socorro South and the Manzanilla stretch. Minister Sinanan assured that pumps installed by the Ministry were working to reduce the water levels as fast as possible. He lamented that there had been a practice in Trinidad of building communities on river banks. The Minister reiterated that the flooding was not caused by blocked drains and watercourses, but by capacity and high tides as the volume of rainfall over two days was 30% more than the monthly average. Minister Sinanan said now that the waters have receded, they are anticipating an increase in landslips.
