Metropolitan Klezmer plays a neo-traditional wedding medley, featuring first a processional tune and then two lively dances, onstage in concert at The Emelin Theatre, Mamaroneck NY (April 22, 2017). "Nokh a Gleyzl Vayn" is followed by "C Minor Bulgar" and "Ken O'Hara Freylekhs" [aka Kammen #2]. Full octet concert, with video here featuring our seven instrumentalists:

Debra Kreisberg - clarinet (& saxophone)
Pam Fleming - trumpet
Reut Regev - trombone
Karen Waltuch - viola
Ismail Butera - accordion
Dave Hofstra - tuba (& upright bass)
Eve Sicular - drums |bandleader

Another performance of this medley also opens our latest CD, 'Mazel Means Good Luck,' recorded live at The Emelin as well.

The first tune here is a lilting melody, title "Nokh a Gleyzl Vayn" translates as "Another Glass of Wine" -- this traditional processional melody would lead a wedding couple to the khupe [canopy for the marriage ceremony]. The two faster melodies which follow are for celebratory dancing, chair lifting, etc. later in the simkhe [happy occasion].

Metropolitan Klezmer has also earlier recorded these as separate tracks on our very first album, "Yiddish For Travelers," and we originally learned this first of the two lively dance tunes from the late great Howie Leess z"l (1920-2003), our band's original reedplayer -- who had also played this number extensively with the Epstein Brothers back in much earlier days too, post-WWII. Both MAZEL MEANS GOOD LUCK and YIDDISH FOR TRAVELERS albums are produced by Rhythm Media Records.

Camera & editing by Rich Brotman. Upcoming videos from this series will also feature Metropolitan Klezmer's vocalist Melissa Fogarty.
