by John Madewell Much more detail has come out about why Ringgold police sergeant Tom Evans was fired last Friday. It's a story of Evans doing a big favor for an F-B-I agent, who was reportedly drunk, and out with another man's estranged wife and her daughter. The incident stretches back four months ago. Instead of a DUI arrest, Sergeant Evans essentially used his patrol car as a taxi. And FBI agent Ken Hillman was right in the middle of it.Last October, three people walked into the Acoustic Cafe in Ringgold.Employees knew they did not need to be served. Deedra Hemphill of the Cafe said, They were obviously already intoxicated, as is our policy, in the interest of public safety, we called the police to keep them from driving. The three people: FBI agent Ken Hillman, millionare Emerson Russell's estranged wife Angela Russell and their daughter Kathryn.A call to 911 from an employee places Hillman in the parking lot. The dispatcher said, So you got another subject (Hillman) that's drunk that's entering a black Tahoe, is that what I'm understanding? Employee: Yeah he was trying to leave, the cops pulled right up to it.Now fired Ringgold police Sergeant Tom Evans was one of those officers.Ringgold based attorney McCracken Poston contacted the FBI about what happened in that parking lot and beyond.Poston is part of a team representing Emerson Russell in his divorce. He said agent Hillman took over. There was a request for a ride, there was a request that an incident report not be made. I think from a local officer's perspective that would be pretty intimidating.Evans drove all three to Kathryn Russell's East Brainerd condo. But she needed to go back to Ringgold. She asked Evans to take her and Poston said he asked her to show her breasts but that never happened.Last Friday, Ringgold police chief Dan Bilbrey fired Evans. The department's internal investigation didn't include agent Hillman.Poston said, But I think there is a big void in not interviewing the FBI agent.Agent Hillman is the head of the Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force. Poston said Angela Russell, a civilian, had been helping catch predators and even hand-cuffed one. That could have an impact on criminal cases down the road.As far as the ride home and Hillman's current status, the FBI did not return my call. Ringgold police chief Dan Bilbrey also declined to comment.NewsChannel 9 has a request in for the internal investigation file and should have it early next week.
