The two officers pulled over a white SUV and a red pickup truck on Interstate 64 West near the Lewisburg Exit at around 4 p.m. Thursday. The white SUV had a North Carolina license plate, which was found to be stolen after a scan. During the traffic stop, the driver of the red pickup truck shot the officers with a handgun. One of the officers managed to shoot him in the leg. He then fled the scene on foot and was later arrested. The driver of the white SUV fled the scene in his vehicle. He hid for some time before turning himself in. Officers discovered two bodies, later identified as belonging to Jerome Faulkner and Dora Faulkner, under a mattress in the bed of the pickup truck. The suspects have not been named, and authorities believe the two incidents are linked.
