It has been succeeded in 19 out 20 cases at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. For the majority of children who suffer from facial paralysis, the cause is a brain tumor. Other cases of facial paralysis are caused by temporal bone fractures, chronic otitis media, and congenital malformations.
