New Home Automation Products and Features - EP 3 - Feb 9, 2018

Welcome to our continuing series on new home automation products and new smart home features.  In this series of videos, we bring you new products that are just out on the market or new home automation products that are coming out soon.  We also show you new features for some of those smart home products you may already have in your home.  It's time to Automate Your Life!

It's another great week for new products, as we have both the Garmin Speak Dash Camera and the Koogeek Smart Power Outlet in our new home automation products section of the video.  The Garmin Speak is a dash camera with Alexa built in, but you'll need to use your cellphone for an internet connection in order to get Alexa to work.  It's also capable of using the new Garmin skill in Alexa to give you turn by turn directions while driving.

The Koogeek outlet we've shown on this video works as a 3 plus smart plug and it interfaces with Apple Homekit.  Of course, that means it'll work with the upcoming Apple Homepod.  With 3 indpendent outlets on a smart device, I am already thinking of ways to use these in sequence!

In the new features section of our video today, I go through everything that's new with the Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home Max.  All of these great Google smart home devices have some significant updates, especially when it comes to sleep!

If you're the type of person that has trouble falling asleep, there's a new Google Home white noise feature that's available for you.  You can start white noise (along with about 10 other "white" noises) and then doze off while the sound plays (for up to an hour).

On the flip side of falling asleep is waking up.  Finally (wow did that take a while), Google has provided us with media, music, or radio alarms to wake up with.  While you can use a song or a radio station, you cannot yet use a playlist.  Google Home (mini, max, or standard) will use your preferred music service to play what you choose to wake up to.

Finally, I thought I'd up the ante with a 3rd feature.  This time, it's Google Home integration with IFTTT and Pushbullet.  Using this methodology, you can actually control your home PC using your Google Home or Google Assistant.  It's amazing to think what you can do with this simple connection and I can't wait to bring you some of this exciting functionality.

All in all, it's another great week for new smart home and home automation products.  I also love the new features coming out for many of our favorite products.
