New Home Automation Products and New Features for March 15, 2018 - EP 8

This week in our new home automation products and new smart home features video are a number of great new products (and some additional details for others).

We start off with the Hive Home Hub, a new home automation hub 
that's £99 to buy outright.  You can also rent the product, but who wants to rent a home automation hub?

The big news for Hive's second generation hub is the fact that it carries with it an AI capability.  It should be able to tell you whether or not your dog is wrecking your house, or attacking an intruder.  Hooray!

In this video I then discuss Apple HomeKit and a few of the new products coming out that will integrate with that home automation suite.  First up is the Nanoleaf Dodecahedron Remote, which can be used to control up to 12 (hence, dodecahedron) different schemes or scenes for your Nanoleaf lighting.

Secondly, I discuss the First Alert OneLink Safe & Sound product.  This is a smart home smoke and carbon monoxide detector that also contains within it an Apple Carplay 2 speaker.  That's quite the additional function for what's already a pretty decently priced product.  At $250 USD, it's right in the range of a speaker and a Smoke/CO detector (like a Nest).

One of the biggest upcoming announcements is from Philips and their outdoor Philips Hue products.  First up is Philips Hue Lily, which is a very expensive smart outdoor spotlight.  It's color capable, and works with your existing Philips Hue Hub.  I love that fact and I can't wait to get my hands on one of these.

The second announced product is the Calla Bollard, which is smart home path lighting from Philips.  It's a little less expensive and can be paired with some of the smart home cameras or motion sensors to allow you to turn on path lighting for friends as they come up to the house.

There are also 4 other Philips Hue outdoor lights being announced on March 19th, so get ready!  Those are all in the $50 USD range.

We also discuss the brand new functionality in the Nintendo Switch for looking up friends and contacts from your Facebook and Twitter contacts.  This is a great little piece of functionality.

Finally, I discuss the Samsung SmartThings outage from earlier this week.  While there weren't a lot of details given out by Samsung, you should have full functionality back.  Despite reports to the contrary, this outage did not affect all users.  It didn't affect me.
