On August 12, 2016 approximately 13 California sea lions were trapped and hot iron branded in the East Mooring Basin in Astoria, Oregon. ODFW and NMFS claim that trapping and hot iron branding does not hurt the sea lions and SLDB observers report otherwise. The Sea lions have been hauling out in the East Mooring Basin for over twenty five years. ODFW began trapping and branding sea lions in 1996. In the Spring from March 15 through May 31 California sea lions are trapped and killed if identified consuming one salmon in five years out of the Columbia River and for being in the area for five days below the Bonneville Dam. This video is for education purposes We all deserve to eat. We all deserve a safe place to sleep. We all deserve a safe place that we can call home.
