For the latest news across Belize, visit: http://edition.channel5belize.com/ There is another protocol to report about tonight. It is the Sarstoon Protocol, which is still up in the air. In June 2016, the foreign ministers of both Belize and Guatemala met at the O.A.S. headquarters in Washington to with O.A.S. Secretary General Luis Almagro to begin to negotiate the terms of a cooperation mechanism for the Sarstoon River. Both Parties had agreed to develop this cooperation mechanism for the Sarstoon River while in Istanbul, Turkey in May 2016. It has been more than two years and with tensions rising at the Sarstoon, a protocol has yet to be forged. The protocol is expected to develop best practices for the de-escalation of tensions in the Sarstoon River where the Guatemalan military has often blocked Belizeans from traversing. So today Minister Elrington was asked if he has reminded his Guatemalan counterpart, Sandra Jovel Polanco, about the commitment made in Istanbul two years ago when Carlos Raul Morales was foreign minister.
