Have you ever wondered how much of an onion bulb can grow into an independent onion plant? Have you wondered how many of the layers inside an onion bulb can grow into leaves, and which ones? In this series I present a transparent growing approach that reveals the answers to these questions.

I took two sweet onions, peeled off the outer brown crisp layer, soaked them in ~0.5% hydrogen peroxide, and then chopped them in half in different ways. I grew them out in the open at first near 4 LED light bulbs (500 lumens) to prevent molding with frequent sprayings of 1+% hydrogen peroxide to initiate root growth, but decided after a few days to try a new approach based on what I had learned from my Growing Sunchoke from Tubers series.
