Shot during a rainy day in November in Idyllwild, CA. At 1800 meters in elevation I could hear numerous acorn woodpeckers drilling away at oak trees to create holes for acorn storage for the winter months. The ground was littered with acorns and there were some small patches of snow, but in another month or two this rich food source might be unavailable for the woodpeckers. The squirrels, scrub jays, and other birds undoubtedly will try to raid these storage units for free food when the ground snows over.
