OVER-THE-RHINE, Ohio (WKRC) - Over-the-Rhine is getting a lot of new neighbors and that has Findlay Market adapting to a new set of shoppers.

The city of Cincinnati has already invested $18 million in the market's revitalization. However, that doesn't automatically mean people are going and spending money.

More than 1.2 million people visit Findlay Market a year discovering fresh foods with an experience. "They're not necessarily loyal Findlay market shoppers yet."

Kate Zaidan is the owner of Dean's Mediterranean Imports. Her family has owned the shop in the market for more than 30 years.

She says new neighbors bring new challenges. "It's our job to show people here in Cincinnati how awesome our market is and I think that's a challenge we're adapting to a whole new customer base."

Zaidan says it's not just her shop. It's the same concept for other vendors. "All of us are having to figure out what is the sweet spot what do we offer in the cutting prices that larger institutions can do."

Bryan Madison is the owner of Madison's next door to Dean's.

He says although it's not a big box store, It provides something others don't outside of the market. "It's a small margin, but the way you make up for that is you have quality product you have fresh product you have local product and most importantly customer service."

In the long run for both Madison and Zaidan, they want the same experience for their customers. "We want to be more than a place to shop. We're a place where people can come rub elbows we're a public gathering space."

Kate says her and a few other vendors are trying to keep Findlay Market funky. She says its kind of their motto to give customers a unique experience.
