Theresa May remains optimistic about Brexit progress despite setbacks

he UK's Prime Minister Theresa May says progress has been made on a Brexit withdrawal agreement and the UK's future relationship with the European Union. She made those comments at an EU Brexit Summit in Brussels on the 17th of October. However, she added that there were still issues with the backstop plan. May said London is willing to discuss an extension of the transition period after the UK leaves the EU, without actually ever planning to use it. However, EU-27 leaders rallied behind negotiator, Michel Barnier, as they arrived at the European Council Summit on Thursday. They contend that the ball was in the UK's court as time runs out to finalize a deal.
