Katherine Cook, KGW - VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Dozens of little girls with aspirations of becoming police officers got to play in police cars and SWAT vehicles Wednesday, as part of the Vancouver Police Department's "Girl Cops are Awesome" event.

It's the latest show of support in honor of Kinley Goertler, a four-year-old Camas, Washington girl.

A couple weeks ago, Kinley asked her mom, Chelsy Goertler, for a police officer Halloween costume. They couldn't find one designed for girls -- just boys.

Kinley's mom vented her frustrations on Facebook. A female Portland Police Officer saw it, rounded up fellow female officers and sent Kinley a photo with a message-- "Girl cops are awesome." After that, support from officers across the nation poured in.
