The Christmas Nightmare: Dent Schoolhouse offers holiday frights

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Imagine a North Pole where Santa and his elves aren't nice.

That's the case at The Dent Schoolhouse as they offer a frightening holiday experience for just two nights.

It was Brianna Zupan's first time inside a haunted house -- and it's December.

"I've never been on Halloween. This is my first time ever going to The Dent Schoolhouse," Zupan said.

Local 12 went through the house with Zupan and her neighbor, Kim Gade.

Co-creator Ben Stross says it's becoming popular for haunted houses to put on a Christmas show.

"We realized we didn't have anything like that in the area, so we decided The Dent Schoolhouse has to bring Christmas and Halloween together," said Stross.

This is their first year, and it's kept them busy.

"It's been putting Santa hats on, props, making new things, stringing up Christmas lights, fluffing trees, so there hasn't been a lot of downtime from Halloween to Christmas," Stross said.

Stross wants this to become a new Christmas tradition.

Inside, the gingerbread men are trying to eat you, Krampus is just around the corner and the elves aren't making toys.

The Dent Schoolhouse even has their own creepy version of Santa. His name is Charlie and he's not jolly, nor does he say, 'Ho, ho, ho.'

Zupan says she screamed so much, she lost her voice.

"I have really no words, basically," she said.

Gade says after decades of Halloween scares, she liked the festive twist.

"I really appreciate how they re-did the Halloween stuff," she said. "I think it's great and I hope they continue it. I hope they do it again next year."

The Dent Schoolhouse was open Friday night. It's only open for one more night: Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
