So if you pay attention in math class, and if you look, theres is mathematical code in nature that start with number developing the say way everytime. Its called the Fibonacci sequence. Its one of those Mindf***s that when explained correctly (and im not even gonna ty cuz i woud butcher it im sure) it maes you step back and appreciate things as they are, and how they are gonna go. So we used a TOOL song, cuz its something colorguards try to avoid musically based on its genre, so i figured, jump on that right away. Song is called Lateralus probably their best song. We let that song be the driving force of the show, the concept. I starts out simple riff, and it developes into a huge impact and goes though a time signature synonymous with the Concept, and then it goes through all these other dynamics, and we just wrote according to those dynamics. Its starts quiet ad subtle, then thats movement phrase, it was intricate in some parts, so we had a duet happen with some b-boy and b-girl moves. impact and power chords then that has to be our 1st flag feature, and we blew out a lot of speakers at some shows, because they thought because our music was so low they had to turn up the track, heh, how wrong they were. we build up the tension by moving everyone of the floor, have everyone enter all at once, it one of my favorite flag feature entrances ive been lucy enough to write Musically thats ho we moved, lyrically it as something different, alot of people couldnt understand the lyrics, let alone what they ment, so i decided to include them in the youtube video. Which is kind of tongue in cheek cuz that song makes fun of the people who overthink what the song is about, so we decided to adopt that mentality. The colors mentioned in the lyrics are whats featured in the song. THen theres the reaching aspect, that hat we put on our floor, alot of people didnt get thats what was on the floo till they saw us reaching, Ive heard the whole audience go "...OOOHHHhhh" at champs. Almost did a full guard rifle feature this year, but we had streamers to make up for it. It was by far, the quietest Rifle phrase ive done yet. "swing on the spiral, although it gets said multiple times, i keep that open for people to figure out what it means for themselves. The rifle exchange was a nice ripple to put in, nice little call back to te previous year. We even decided to up the Ante with the launch toss. I really like the idea of, we may just go where no ones been, and it seemed approperiate to do something no ones tried to do yet. And of coure the spiral out Flag feature, it was the 1st thing the kids learned that season, and i learned you should do the flag feature idea 1st, and clean along the way. It was a fun year, it was a bummer what happened at champs that year, with the rain, but that floor was soaked, and they still knocked that show, as difficult as it was out the park. There you Go Though this would end up being the last show i would do for American Canyon, i was happy to be apart of the growth of those great kids, We are still in contact to this day, and thats what bein a good teacher is all about.
